At last the South westerlies are here! I have been out for a few quick surface pasty bashing sessions in the last few days and have had some little crackers, however Dan did manage to blank and lose 3 controllers bless him! Lol I even managed a Herts report this week, so I am at least starting to get my house in order! What with Inside Line, the Shows, new syndicate and at least trying to get on the bank, so things are moving! Now the season is over though I have the excuse to empty out the workshop, empty all the tackle boxes etc, change mainlines, tie fresh rigs and really get ready for hopefully a very successful season, we shall see! By the way, I met a few people at 5 Lakes and it was good to catch up, how did you all find the show?

5 Lakes here we come!

Well one of the most loved shows of the season are soon upon us, 5 Lakes in Essex has also been known as a gooden!

So if you get the chance then please do say hello if you see me. I will obviously be there for Inside Line, but I will be wondering about for most of the weekend!

Individual Baits Steamies, AI, Matrix – well all the top brands are there, so definitely worth a visit.

I hear Matrix are launching something VERY nifty at the show as well so keep your eyes open for that. Individual Baits will have the awesome new Tuna, Crab and Squid bait there and AI will have the new luggage and the brilliant new Airframe so keep your eyes peeled!

I also have a meeting at my new syndicate on Saturday morning which should be interesting. The ticket was confirmed a few nights ago, so 40 pound Commons and Mirrors and loads of 30′s here we come!

I have been trickling in some TNT over the last few weeks, so hopefully they will have a sweet tooth by the time I am pushing the bank sticks in for the 1st time!

Cant wait!

5 Lakes – Here we come!

Well, one of the last shows of the season is soon upon us.

5 Lakes has always been regarded as one of the top shows and there are a lot of very interactive events taking place over the few days.

it would be good to catch up with you over the 2 days, so if you see me then feel free to say hello! I will obviously be there for Inside Line meeting up with quite a few of the guys, so I am looking forward to it!

Individual baits and the awesome Steamies will of course be there, Matrix and the stainless will be there, AI will be there, sod it all the top brands will be there so come down if you get the chance!

I also have a meeting at my new syndicate on Saturday morning before the show, the owner called the other night to confirm my ticket, so 40lbs plus Commons, big fat 40+ Mirrors and a great big handful of 30 pounders so I can’t wait!

I have secretly been tricking in the TNT’s so hopefully they will have a sweet tooth by the time I stick my bankstix in for the 1st time!

On a wet and windy day we lost our minds!

Well the other day kicked off very nicely, Steve was on time, so we were quickly tucked into a Sausage Sarnie in my Kitchen with a hungry Weimaraner druling at the prospect of a dropped morsel. It wasnt long before that was devoured, and we were soon flying the 5 minutes round the corner with a few kilos of 22mm Individual Baits Steamies Barrels tucked under our coats.

There were a couple of lads on, so we decided to walk the opposite way down, although I am on for next season we technically are not supposed to be on the land yet, so putting in a few kilos may well be frowned upon!

Anyway it was Steve’s 1st visit so he wanted to have a good look, it was overcast and damp but we found a couple of lovely areas and features and were soon concocting plans to fish the area, the few kilos were soon sprayed out over the area and we were soon chomping at the bit for the start of the new season!

After a good look round and a chat with the friendly bailiffs in one of the huts we were again in my little car and trundling home, we picked up some gear and a load of bait and headed off down the road to the little lake in my estate.

Anyway long story short we nailed a few very quickly and then, it just died and they disappeared, something I have never seen before. I did see a couple taking off the top in the pissing rain in about 4 degrees though, so we fred some mixers over, swiftly followed by our controllers, what ever we tried though we couldn’t get them to take, and shortly after we packed up soaking wet and a little dejected.

But hey, it was a good day and we are all guns firing for the start of the new season!

The week ahead looks ominous!

Well I had some good plans for this coming Thursday, Steve is coming round mine for a fry up in the morning, then we are going to have a nose around next seasons water, come back for lunch then go pasty bashing, sounds a good day right?? – Have you looked out the window recently? I had a blank day last Friday in very chilly conditions and I am literally gagging for a big Carp, please Spring – HURRY UP!

A funny old weekend!

Well this weekend was interesting! First things first the Boys stuffed the Welsh, so many refreshing drinks and Chinese food were consumed during, and in celebration! Whilst we enjoyed the merriment I hatched the plan of doing a bit of Chubbing the following morning on a small and in mega flood little river. Early on Sunday morning I dumped some chilli and garlic powder into a bag of meat, some stinky cheese and some bread flake so bait was sorted, my Simpsons stalking rod was dusted off and the Baitrunner B was fired up and ready to go, Chub here we come!! After an ‘early meeting’ at Dans front door we made our way down the road to the river – as we rounded the corner my eyes started playing tricks on me! There, every 20 yards down the banks of this small, overgrown and very flooded river were countless middle/ol aged men in long johns and bib & Brace. On closer investigation it became clear I wasn’t still recovering from the Hoegaarden and indeed, one bank of this little stretch was run by a club, and today in the cold and rain they were having a match – I just couldn’t believe it! Anyway, we decamped to the little lake in the entrance to my estate and all proceeded in a little over 90 minutes to nail 2 little carp each between the three of us on a mixture of corn, meat and bread flake, so some pride was salvaged. At a little befor 12 mid day we got into our respective chariots and headed off for our Sunday roasts!

Inside Line Update

I know this Blog is read by all sort from people in the trade to consumers, so I know Inside Line (Trade Magazine) will be of little interest to half of you.

So fear not I will not cover that magazine in much depth, and very often on the Blog. However I am pleased to announce that the line up for the very first issue is now set, and it is a line up that many consumer magazines would be very pleased to have.

Mark Lloyd (Chairman Angling Trust) Keith Jenkins, Kevin Nash, Paul Terry, Paul Forward, ECHO and Shaun Harrison are all on board from the start!

Things I have seen recently!

Good afternoon all, I hope we are all well?

With Inside Line I now obviously get to meet a lot of people in the industry as well as see a lot of new products and over the last week or so I have been really impressed with some of the things I have seen.

I was down at AI yesterday to see the new range with MD Paul Terry, the stuff looks the nutz and the rods and stalker bag in particular is set to be real big in 2010, I also had a chat with Alan Parberry at Mistral and the new bait they have developed with Tim Wagner I think it was looks to be very effective. I have also been speaking with Kristian at Individual and he is well excited about the new bait which consists of Crab, Tuna and Squid, so a real fishy winner. He is yet to come up with a name for it, so any suggestions on here I am sure he will appreciate it!

Lots planned for next week as well, so I will let you know what I see!

I managed to get out!

I know it is hard to believe, but i managed to get a few hours on the bank this weekend!

Arriving bright and early at 5.30am (its days only) I had a walk around the ‘harder’ lake on the complex to see if I could hear anything in the Inky darkness. Didnt want to hump all the gear up to the ressie if the Big Girls were playing ball on the Lake that I concentrated on throughout the Summer.

Anyway long story short I heard naff all, so put the rukki on my back slung everything else over my shoulders and did my pack horse impression all the way up to the ressie!

When I got up there I headed for the middle area of the Lake, I expected the crowds to appear when it was light, and I really didnt want to be surrounded by numpties as they were bound to go in the first swims they came too.

Anyway I put the gear down and sparked up a fag and within about 10 minutes a nice deep splodge was heard what seemed about 40 yards out in front of me. I quickly shipped a rod together that already had a choddy connected, tied on a TNT corkball and a light lead and flicked it out roughly where I thought the show had come from.

I stuck the rod on the floor with the free spool on, sat on the mat and finished my fag. No more than 5 minutes later it melted off and I was in. Proper happy with that, pretty cold, easterly winds and still pitch black and here I was bent into one.

I instantly knew it wasn’t a hippo, but at about 16/17lbs I was more than happy.

I took the opportunity after that to get things squared away and get myself organized. After a few hours it was clear the rest of the day was going to be quiet, I did manage to winkle out another little common of about 14lbs, but that was that, and I packed away about two and went for a wonder around the ‘tough Lake’ again see if I could spot anything.

I couldnt, so jumped in the car and headed home, good day!
